Eh, Optimus Prime doesn’t believe in evolution. In the comics, Optimus Prime has met his supernatural creator, and he carries His lifeforce around in his chest. And in the cartoon, Optimus Prime knows he was built by Quintessons and that you get more Transformers by asking a golden disco ball. There is no breeding or mating on Cybertron, and thus no evolution.

Optimus Prime is pretty aware, however, that a planet’s dominant species can destroy its ecosystem! That’s why he’s on Earth and not home!

Actually, while looking into the matrix to learn how to deal with the new ‘Cybertronians’ (Generation 2), Prime witnesses one Transformer ‘give birth’ to another, and learns that the Transformers do, actually, evolve.

Richard Wade from the Friendly Atheists blog proposes that we display billboards that are “truly innocuous, so that the only thing that might provoke ‘offense’ would be the word ‘atheist’ in the billboard sponsor’s name,” like the ones above, instead of the more aggressive, in-your-face messages.

To start: I would never wish a miscarriage on any family. Such an event is a terrible tragedy that no family should have to suffer through. Sadly, these things happen.

Recently, Michelle Duggar (“19 and Counting”) miscarried for the second time.

I’ve been one of her bigger critics. We do not live in a society where it is anywhere near necessary to have that many kids. I’m sure that the only reason she can afford that many is the payments from TLC - I’m not sure what Jim Bob does, but I guarantee he doesn’t get paid THAT well.

Oversized family aside, here’s my issue: In her ‘statement’ (I can’t believe this woman gets to release ‘statements’…) she says (quoted from article on CNN.com): “The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him.”

This reminds me of the age-old line, “It’s all a part of God’s plan.”

Really? God gave you a miscarriage? God said to himself, “You know, I think I’m going to give this woman a miscarriage today”?

What possible plan could that serve?

And let’s say for the sake of argument that it IS part of God’s plan. Doesn’t that make him kind of an asshole? To the religious right, isn’t this the same thing as someone running up and stabbing your kid?

Yet they continue to venerate God, despite the tragedies he imposes on people. Why? Why do people continue to place their faith in a deity who is so obviously a sadistic bastard? Are these people masochists?

I beseech you: Why on Earth would you place your trust and love in someone who so clearly doles out pain and death on a whim? Why, when he wrongs you, do you simply take it and say, “It’s okay, it’s God”?

Herman Cain will not be President of the United States. Why?

Herman Cain should finish the New Hampshire primary in dead last, which is nearly guaranteed to crush his presidential aspirations. Any New Hampshire resident who votes for Cain is definitively voting against their own self-interest.

Cain’s 9-9-9 Plan would create a 9% national sales tax. This sales tax is intended to be on top of any state sales tax that might be present. While New Hampshire does not have a sales tax, its neighbors (Vermont, Maine, and Massachussetts) all do. New Hampshire’s economy relies heavily on customers from those states buying their products in a tax-free state.

The establishment of a national sales tax would cause untold havoc in New Hampshire: while products would still be cheaper, the difference would be largely insignificant to most folks, and they will stop buying their products in New Hampshire.

Every single resident of New Hampshire should vote for someone who isn’t Herman Cain.

Personally, I’m kinda hoping that Mitt Romney wins the nomination. For starters, he’s one of only two candidates that doesn’t make me want to move to Canada (the other being Ron Paul). But mostly, I’m amused at the idea of Evangelical Christians having to choose between a Mormon and a black man.
